Candace has been an animal lover her entire life. It was her love of animals that propelled her into taking a job at a local vet, and eventually pursuing a degree Biology. Tiring at having worked in the veterinary industry for over 10 years and, at the behest of a client one day, she started slowly and casually sidling into the pet sitting world. She learned very quickly that it’s much more fun caring for pets in a non-clinical setting, and where they’re happiest—in their own homes! She continued working at the vet and pet sitting and dog walking on the side for a couple of years. Then she met Ryan. While he had no formal experience with animals other than his own pets, and a completely unrelated career history (Military Police in the Canadian Armed Forces), he immediately saw the amazing potential that West Coast Tails had. With his keen business acumen and marketing/web design expertise, he helped Candace take West Coast Tails to the next level. With only 7 months to go before their wedding, they both took a leap of faith to quit their full time jobs and pursue the company full time. They have been blessed by West Coast Tails ever since, and they LOVE what they do!

I have always been surrounded by pets my entire life. I was born and raised into a family that always had pets. It was at my mother’s memorial in 2005 that someone had mentioned that every photo in my mother’s montage had a pet in it. Family holidays, birthdays, special events, and just goofy candids – there was always a cat on someone’s lap or a dog lounging beside us on the couch. It was so natural that all my life I had never really realized how much of an impact our many pets had on my life, and the life of my family. Having animals around me all my life created the person I would later become and mould the career I would have in a most providential way.
Today we have 7 wonderful cats (yep, 7) and 1 yellow lab named Matlock who probably feels a little chagrined about being so outnumbered. I love working side by side with my husband, and I love what we get to do every single day. We feel so blessed that we have the best job in the world, and we’re thankful that we’re able to extend our pet family to include all of yours!
In 2001 I was awarded Military Police of the Year, was granted advanced promotion to Corporal, and had a solid future in the military until a serious injury cut my military career short. Now, 8 years later, I’m walking dogs and helping to run a successful pet care company. Everything happens for a reason, and I couldn’t be happier with direction my life has taken me. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and when I met Candace in 2006 it was obvious what an incredible opportunity the pet care industry presented. I just had one cat of my own before I married Candace; a Russian Blue named Rogue. Now Rogue has 6 feline brothers and sisters and a dog to boss around. Now we have over 500 dogs and cats all over the Lower Mainland that serve as our extended pet family, and I am excited to be able to live out my dream of owning my own company.
In the spring of 2009, Neil and Amber Olsen, friends of Candace and Ryan and fellow animal lovers, came on board and invested in West Coast Tails allowing the company growth opportunities that might have otherwise taken years to accomplish. Now with a thriving compliment of over15 team members across the Lower Mainland, Candace and Ryan Herrod and Neil and Amber Olsen look forward to all the possibilities West Coast Tails will provide.
West Coast Tails provides Pet Sitting, Dog Walking, Canine Obedience Training, Pet Taxi, Animal Massage, Canine and Equine Chiropratic, Equine Care, Animal Reiki, Animal Photography and Videography and Many Other Professional Pet Services. We are proud to serve all the communities from Vancouver to Abbotsford, including Aldergrove, Cloverdale, Langley, Surrey, Delta, Newton, White Rock, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Burnaby, Richmond, East Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, South Vancouver, and all the adjacent communities.
